This Little Boy Has the Most Heartbreaking Response to "What Do You Want For Christmas?"

Never underestimate the power of Santa — or the person in a Santa costume. Police Chief Robert Kappelman shared a heartwarming post, just in time for the holidays, asking his community for one simple act: to donate money for the Toothbrush Christmas Campaign.

Two years ago, Robert said he had to dress up as Santa and play the part for children who came to see him. As he was counting down the minutes until the event was over, he recounted that he had asked one boy what he wanted for Christmas and the boy heartbreakingly said, "A new toothbrush and maybe some toothpaste."

"WHAT?! My attention was immediately drawn back to the little boy, a little disheveled and dirty, sitting on my knee. I was shocked. My eyes filled with tears as he sat there looking at me with that look little children give those who they trust implicitly," the police chief wrote in a moving Facebook post. "To that little boy, I WAS Santa. He was sure Santa would bring him this most basic of needs."

Needless to say, this moment could not be wiped from Robert's mind and he wanted to do something about it. He noted that last year, the community rallied together to give four hundred children in the community a hand-swen stocking with two books, some toys, candy, toothpaste and a toothbrush. And this year, he is hoping to keep this tradition alive by launching the campaign.

"As a cop who's seen more evil in human beings than I care to ever remember, it warms my heart to see the community come together for our children," he said.
