According to a recent announcement made by the US Food and Drug Administration, The Quaker Oats Company has voluntarily recalled boxes of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars due to health risks. Sunflower kernels that could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes were distributed by a supplier, although no illnesses have been reported yet.

Consuming products with Listeria can result in symptoms such as fever, headache, nausea, and diarrhea. Elderly people, young children, and those with weak immune systems are at a higher risk of experiencing more severe and possibly fatal infections. Contamination may also cause miscarriage and stillbirths for pregnant women.

Double-check the expiration dates and UPC codes of the following products before throwing them into lunch bags:

  • 6.1 ounce boxes of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Chocolate Nut Medley with UPC code 30000 32241 and Best Before Dates of: 10/16/2016, 10/17/2016
  • 6.1 ounce boxes of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Yogurt, Fruit & Nut with UPC 30000 32243 and Best Before Dates of: 10/10/2016, 10/11/2016

Only a small amount of products have been recalled as a majority of them were stopped before making it to retail stores. If you have either of the Quaker Oats items with the stated UPC codes and dates, throw them away or return from the original place of purchase for a full refund.
