1 Teen With Cerebral Palsy Walked For the First Time at Graduation, and the Moment Will Melt Your Heart

High school students across the country are gearing up to walk across the stage to earn their diplomas. The feat may seem standard to many, but to Okmulgee High School student Micah McDade, walking across the stage meant so much more.

Micah was diagnosed with cerebral palsy since birth and has been in a wheelchair for his entire life. According to local news, Micah had been told by doctors that walking would never be possible for him. But he made it his goal to prove naysayers wrong and walk for the first time on the day of his commencement. Leading up to the event, Micah reportedly worked in private toward his dream — and during his May 20 ceremony, he took his first steps across the stage.

In an emotional video, Micah is brought to the podium in his wheelchair and then is assisted by staff to stand to his feet. His peers and family passionately cheer him on as he begins to take strides across the stage to receive his honor. As he takes his steps, the orator of the ceremony exclaims, "Ladies and gentlemen, I've been doing this for a long time and that is the best — ever!," and we couldn't agree more.
