I am a stay at home mom and I read this article b/c I know people can be insensitive on both sides and I actually wanted to know what not to say, but these things are pretty obvious. The thing is no matter were you are, at home or in the work place, to take time, make time with your kids to let them know that you do love them and I think it is important for them not to to feel taken for granted either b/c you see them all day or b/c your day is busy with obligations. Kids need one on one time and family time too. Most of all, they just need us parents to show our love and each kid is different and each parent is different. Hats off to single moms. It must be CRAZY hard to balance and get through each week, and you do it! Amazing! And likewise to those in marriages too. You have an ideal setting to raise you kids and this will go a long way in their own life. Peace.

The whole "you look exhausted" thing irks me. Like SAHM's arent freaking exhausted?! I've been on both sides of the fence, and working full time was FAR less stressful and emotionally taxing not to mention LESS work than being a SAHM. Luxury? Are you kidding me? Yeah, non stop cleaning, constant chasing kids around, never ending work in all areas is not my idea of a day at the park.

I would have killed to stay at home with my kds when they were very little but we had no other choice. I wanted to rudely turn around and walk away from people when I heard comments like these. Stay at home moms are lucky to be at home with their kids but they don't have to rub it in.

Can we add, aren't we all working moms? To the list of things not to say to moms bring home the bacon AND has to cook it too! As a mom who didn't plan to work and then had to be a working mom due to unexpected circumstance I find this one to be especially grating. It is a wonderful blessing to have the luxury to be a stay at home mom and to hear someone talk like it is a burden is upsetting. A SAHM always has the choice to work if she were to decide she wanted to but a lot of working moms are working because they don't have a choice.

These comments are incredibly insensitive. Most moms, whether SAH or working outside the home are doing the best they can for their families. I also think the title of this article is insensitive however. Aren't we all working moms? Some work inside the home and some work outside the home.
