What This Video Shows a Newborn Doing — at Just Hours Old — Will Warm Your Heart

This video of a baby, who is merely hours old, shows what can happen when a newborn is placed on their mother's belly.

If left uninterrupted, the little one can find his or her mother's nipple on their own by "breast crawling." The scent of the nipple is said to be similar to amniotic fluid, and newborns use this smell, along with sight, taste, sound, and touch, to find their way to their mother's breast.

In this stunning video, the hungry newborn is seen making its way up to its mom's breast aided solely by its little mouth and hands. The World Health Organization recommends that moms breastfeed within the first hour following birth, and the best results for breast crawling occur when babies are only minimally washed in order to keep from interrupting their instincts. Breast crawling can help regulate the baby's temperature, stimulate the mother's milk, help her uterus contract, and provide time for the pair to bond.
