What 1 Little Boy Taught His Adoptive Dad About Love

Before this little boy joined his family through foster care at just 5 days old, his soon-to-be adoptive dad had some concerns.

While he and his wife had been undergoing fertility treatments with no success, he already had children from a previous marriage. And although they are both nurses who work in the labor and delivery department — and see unthinkable situations babies are born into everyday — he still had hesitations about expanding their family through foster care and adoption when they learned at the hospital that there weren't any homes available for this newborn baby.

"He has four other kids from a previous marriage (I had none) and he told me for years he never thought he could love a child as much that wasn't biologically his," the anonymous mom shared with Together We Rise's Facebook page. "But then he said he saw that I love his kids like they are my own and realized it was possible."

The loving family decided to go for it and now, 752 days later, their adorable 2-year-old boy is not only the center of his dad's world, but now officially shares his last name. "The only advice I would give to future parents is to be open," the proud mom wrote. "God will place a child with you that you can make a difference with."
