Donald Trump Just Attacked Michelle Obama — But His Dig Isn't Even True

While speaking at a campaign rally in North Carolina on Friday, Donald Trump attempted to make a dig at Michelle Obama — but his comment wasn't even true. First he said "all she wants to do is campaign" for Hillary Clinton and then referred to a line the first lady used in 2007.

"We have a president, all he wants to do is campaign. His wife, all she wants to do is campaign. And I see how much his wife likes Hillary," Trump said. "But wasn't she the one that originally started the statement, if you can't take care of your home — right? — you can't take care of the White House or the country."

Trump is correct that Michelle said, "If you can't run your own house, you can't run the White House," but he's not correct that the line was directed at Clinton. Both President Obama and Michelle have denied that the remark alluded to the Clintons' well-documented marriage problems. Shortly after her comment, Obama said, "There was no reference beyond her point that we have had an administration that talks a lot about family values but doesn't follow through." Michelle's communications director at the time gave another answer, saying that "the only family Mrs. Obama was talking about was the Obama family."

And contrary to what some people believe, Michelle made the comment months before her husband was campaigning against Clinton in the 2007 primaries. Trump either didn't know or didn't care about this. "She's the one that started that. I said, 'We can't say that, it's too vicious.' Can you believe it?" Trump told the audience on Friday.

We have yet to hear a response from the White House, but in the mean time, Michelle might be practicing even more Trump take-downs without ever mentioning his name.
