Stephen Colbert ripped into Donald Trump for his comments last week about the birther controversy surrounding President Obama. As a reminder, here's what the GOP nominee said during a press conference on Friday: "Hillary Clinton and her campaign of 2008 started the birther controversy. I finished it. I finished it. You know what I mean. President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period."

On The Late Show Monday night, Colbert expressed his outrage at Trump's comments, echoing the thoughts of many people who heard Trump's words and thought, "WTF is he talking about?" given that he's spearheaded the birther movement since 2011.

"We're not crazy. We were there. We all saw you do it."

After playing the clip where Trump finally admitted that Obama was born in the US, Colbert said, "That's what I call a firm grasp of the obvious. Next I assume he's going to announce that water is wet, bears poop in the woods, and that Donald Trump is not qualified to be president."

Colbert went on to revisit several videos of Trump questioning Obama's birth place over the years, including the time he said he would donate $5 million to charity if Obama released his passport applications and records. But what really set Colbert off was the clip of Trump saying he finished the controversy. "No, you didn't. No, you didn't," said Colbert. "And I know you didn't because I was alive and on TV."

He ended the segment with, "Here's the deal. You don't get to flog this issue for five years and then act like you're correcting everybody else. We're not crazy. We were there. We all saw you do it. Even the people who support you saw you do it. It's why they support you."

We're not crazy. We were there. We all saw you do it. This is exactly why people were so infuriated by Trump's comments last week, yet it also applies to the other blatant lies he's told throughout his campaign.
