Rebecca Ferguson Agrees to Perform at Trump's Inauguration If She Can Sing This 1 Song

Donald Trump has been having a hard time finding celebrities willing to perform at his Jan. 20 inauguration. British X Factor alumna Rebecca Ferguson said on Monday that she was asked to sing on the big day and would oblige — under one condition. In a blog post she shared on Twitter, Ferguson said she'd perform at the ceremony if she is permitted to sing the famous protest song, "Strange Fruit."

The song is an anti-racism ballad written by Abel Meeropol in 1937 after he reportedly saw a photo of a lynching; it was famously performed by Billie Holiday in 1939.

Ferguson explains her condition in the blog post, writing "If you allow me to sing 'Strange Fruit' . . . a song that speaks to all the disregarded and down trodden black people in the United States. A song that is a reminder of how love is the only thing that will conquer all the hatred in this world, then I will graciously accept your invitation and see you in Washington."

Trump has yet to respond to Ferguson's request. So far, the the Radio City Rockettes, America's Got Talent contestant Jackie Evancho, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir are expected to perform, although the lineup has faced its share of controversies.
