You've Never Seen Anything Like This Weight-Loss Plate

When your dishes are disappointed in your unhealthy food choices, it's a lot harder to justify poor eating habits . . . which is why this new SmartPlate idea has been garnering loads of attention. Complete with tiny cameras and internal scales, the plate is able to identify and calculate the health value of any food you serve.

After identifying your dinner, the plate syncs this information with a smartphone app that documents your meals, calories consumed, and so forth. The whole point is to make keeping tabs on your eating habits incredibly easy.

A healthy grocery delivery service called Fitly is leading the effort to mass-produce the device, which is backed by multiple medical institutions. To make the intelligent plate available at an affordable cost, Fitly has launched a $100,000 Kickstarter, and the crowdfunding effort has received impressive support so far. It definitely sounds groundbreaking, but, as with any new gadget, there are some things the SmartPlate is getting wrong. If you still want to support it, be sure to donate before June 21.
