1 Guy Just Pranked the Internet With This Epic Tweet

Have you ever seen a photo being shared on Facebook or Twitter and just assumed it's true? You're not the only one — these days, fake photos and videos can go viral so quickly, with your mom and high school friends sharing them unknowingly. One prolific Twitter user, jonnysun, decided to teach the Internet two key lessons about viral photos by doing his own social media experiment last night.

In a single tweet, he uploaded a fake Google search result of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's middle names that make it seem like their children's names — Willow and Jaden — are combinations of their names. (See the tweet above.) Anyone can easily search on Google to see that it's not true, but Twitter users didn't. Instead, they chided Jonny Sun and made it seem like this was obvious information that everyone would know.

Lmao you just found out??? https://t.co/KP8kAddZkj

But, the spread of misinformation on social media wasn't the only lesson Jonny was teaching people. Parody and joke sites were stealing his screenshot, tweeting or sharing it on Facebook, and claiming it as their own. Amid all the recent stories about plagiarism on the Internet, especially when it comes to jokes, this is a classic example of how quickly it's done.

what @jonnysun did is what Oxford dictionary did to catch other publishers from stealing their content. brilliant

So remember — don't trust everything you see on the Internet, even if it's going viral. And when in doubt, google the information for yourself.
