Nike Is Making Back to the Future's Self-Lacing Sneakers

Happy New Year! The year 2015 is the fateful year Marty McFly traveled to in Back to the Future II, and, in honor of that, it looks like Nike is bringing Marty's self-lacing light-up kicks to life. Nike filed a patent for a pair of shoes with a power-lacing system — and the patent was approved. From illustrations obtained by Nice Kicks, it looks like the high-tech high-tops feature a side button to activate the "power laces."

In 2011, the company revealed a Back to the Future-inspired limited-edition pair called the Nike MAG. Only about 1,500 units were available, and all were auctioned on eBay to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson's. In the gallery, relive Marty McFly's original pair of futuristic sneakers, then take a look at what the new pair you'll be able to buy will look like. It's no hoverboard, but it's pretty dang close. Source: YouTube user nicekicks
