On April 29, the singer posted a video of herself getting a buzzy new haircut called the "cub cut." In the clip she asks her hairstylist, Jesus Guerrero, to let her fans know his social media handle so they can give him their unfiltered thoughts on her new look.

The response was swift. "You guys had a lot of strong feelings about my haircut," Perry wrote in a follow-up post two hours later. "Let's see that energy for KP6. Cause this is just a wig." (While she has yet to confirm the exact name and release date, it appears KP6 is referring to the name of her new album.)

Wig or not, Perry's new haircut is perfectly on-trend. The cub cut is often considered the little sister to the wolf cut, only this version of the short hairstyle typically sits right above the jawline and that is the biggest differentiator between this look and its predecessor. Otherwise, both incorporate choppy, shaggy layers throughout the hair, which add loads of volume. The result offers a slightly grungy effect, perfect for the "indie sleaze" aesthetic that's having a moment right now.
