As someone with perpetually chapped lips, I've probably tried every major lip balm on the market at least once, from the prestigious to the cult classics. So it comes as a pleasant surprise that my latest discovery — and new favorite lip product — isn't either of those things. Instead, it's a $5 lip balm you can find at your local drugstore. The e.l.f. Cosmetics Ride or Die Lip Balm may be very new and very affordable, but mark my words: this product is on its way to cult status.
Infused with plenty of hydrating goodness like rose oil and jojoba oil, this lip balm is intensely moisturizing to help treat and repair dry lips like mine. It comes in six shades, plus clear, to provide a sheer wash of color and natural finish. On top of that, it's vegan; if you prefer animal-free products, you know it can be surprisingly hard to find vegan lip balms since many contain beeswax or lanolin.
I opted for the Tough Cookie shade for a my-lips-but-better effect. I apply it with my finger, but you can also use a lip brush. I find that when I wear it, not only are my lips soft and hydrated, but they also look plump and smooth thanks to the vegan collagen. I can honestly say this $5 tube is comparable to, if not better than, the more expensive counterparts I've tried. Ahead, discover all seven shades and prepare to stock up!
For a sheer pinky-nude hue, Tough Cookie ($5) is your go-to. You can also apply it (and any of the other shades) on the apples of your cheeks as blush!
If you prefer no color and all hydration, opt for Mighty Mint ($5). It will enhance your natural color and provide a bit of shine.
Boss Berry ($5) is your classic sheer pinky-red berry hue. Apply for extrajuicy color!
Just Peachy ($5) is a sheer coral-peach shade that's a touch more vibrant than Tough Cookie.
For a moody take on lip balm, you'll want to try Cheeky Cherry ($5). In a sheer berry-purple tint, it's the deepest shade in the collection.
At the other end of the spectrum, there's Grapefruit Goals ($5), the lightest hue of the bunch, with a sheer bubblegum pink. Apply it if you're looking for a barely-there hint of color.
Give in to the fall feels with P.S.L. ($5). It's a sheer coral-orange shade that will give your lips a golden glow.
