We've frittered away countless hours in front of our computer screen mesmerized by hair and makeup tutorials. While this seemingly slothful habit has made us feel a bit guilty in the past, we've now been given serious approval for our hobby . . . by the pope himself.

According to The Guardian, Pope Francis met with 12 YouTube stars from around the world to offer his support for vlogging. "You can create a virtual identity; you belong to this circle at least virtually. From that you can start taking a path of optimism and hope," he told the group.

In particular, he called out Louise Pentland, known as Sprinkle of Glitter on YouTube.

"I am glad that you carry out the type of work you said, following the line of beauty, it's a great thing," he said. "To preach beauty and show beauty helps neutralise aggression."

Many people around the world have found solace in digital communities during times of strife. Beauty videos have provided countless fans with not only inspiration but also a place to share opinions, start conversations, and make friends. By meeting with YouTubers, Pope Francis is confirming that he truly believes that the internet is a "gift from God." The jury is still out, though, on how he feels about the contouring trend.
