The Amy Winehouse Documentary Trailer Is Pretty Heartbreaking

Amy Winehouse died in 2011 at 27 years old after a struggle with substance abuse, a tragic footnote at the end of a promising career. Though it doesn't feel like we lost her that long ago at all, a new documentary is coming out to take us through Winehouse's rise and fall. Oscar-nominated director Asif Kapadia, who directed Senna, has created Amy, and the full trailer has just arrived, featuring a prefame Winehouse talking about her passion for singing and her fear of fame. It'll give you goosebumps and make you feel heartbroken and inspired, all at once. The documentary just premiered at the Cannes Film Festival — we liked it but walked away feeling heavy-hearted — and it'll hit theaters on July 10.
