Praise Toast Norma, Orange Is the New Black is back! Netflix's hit comedy has returned, but don't start the new episodes without reminding yourself of what happens at the end of last season. After all, a lot goes down on the season three finale! Take a look below to see what's going on with Piper, Alex, Red, and all the girls. Then, check out all the details we've compiled about season four and see what the cast looks like on in real life.
After Stella inks a heartwarming tattoo on Piper ("Trust No Bitch"), Piper discovers that not only are her brother and his wife scamming her prison panty customers, but her bank account has been drained too. Stella confesses to wiping her out, but Piper gets back at her by stashing contraband in her bunk and tipping off the guards. Ya burnt. The last we see of Piper, she's carving herself a new tattoo.
Alex is in deep trouble; Aydin, who works for her former boss/drug kingpin, corners her in the greenhouse.
Poor Soso takes a ton of pills and ends up half-dead in the library. She survives thanks to Taystee, Poussey, and Crazy Eyes, but she's still depressed. She ends up telling Healy that's he's terrible at his job, which, let's face is, he is.
After being repeatedly assaulted by Coates, Pennsatucky fakes a seizure during van duty. Coates gets banged up and Pennsatucky gets taken off driving duties, but Maritza gets the job.
Remember that whole storyline about Litchfield coming under new management? Danny quits and Caputo, at Fig's urging, takes his job. This doesn't sit well with the COs, who had been planning on unionizing. They stage a revolt by walking out on their jobs and leaving Caputo to deal with the inmates, who have found a hole in the chain-link fence and are enjoying a nearby lake.
Sophia has had a rough go of it; she ends season three locked up in the SHU after being verbally and physically harassed. She's supposedly there for her protection, but it's still a horrible place to be.
Speaking of terrible places, Luschek gets caught with heroin and blames Nicky. Because of the violation, she gets sent to maximum security prison.
Wedding bells for Morello! The inmate marries her sweetheart Vince at Litchfield, and they consummate the marriage by the vending machines. You go, Morello.
Red gets reinstated as the kitchen's head chef just in time for the new management to introduce a gross new "meals in a bag" system. Not to be dissuaded, Red cooks vegetables from her garden for special dinners for the girls. She continues to build her friendship with Healy through the season, eventually thanking him for being helpful to her.
Speaking of Healy, he agrees to help pay for an apartment for his wife and her mother. He still has a crush on Red, but she tells him that the timing is wrong. Basically, nothing is going right for him.
Daya and her mother have a tumultuous season. Daya wants to give her baby away, but Aleida sends Cesar (her ex) for her newborn daughter. Daya and Aleida end up bonding on the shore of the lake, while the DEA raids Cesar's house and takes her baby.
Bennett proposes to Daya, then the last we see of him is when he dumps the crib given to him by Cesar on the side of the road. There's a theory that he's behind the DEA's raid on Cesar, but it's unconfirmed.
Norma becomes somewhat of a cult leader on the third season, but she gives it up when Leanne starts worshipping a piece of toast that looks like Norma, realizing it's gotten out of hand.
Piper puts Flaca in her place for requesting more payment for panties by firing her. Before the season ends, Piper rehires Flaca for a lower rate.
Suzanne finally finds what she's been looking for in Maureen. They hold hands in the lake on the finale, implying that they might be an item on season four.
While initially she just wants a Kosher meal in the cafeteria, Cindy develops a sincere desire to convert to Judaism. The rabbi tells her he will approve her wish to convert, and on the finale, Cindy symbolically leaps into the lake as a rebirth.
