After inspectors found contamination from foreign material including wood, plastic, rubber, and metal, Pilgrim's Pride issued a major recall of nearly 4.6 million pounds of fully cooked chicken products.
According to Pilgrim's Pride, the recall is voluntary and affects products marked as produced between Aug. 21, 2014, and March 1, 2016, with the establishment number "EST.20728" inside the USDA inspection mark. Products involved in the recall include 10-, 20-, and 30-pound boxes of Gold Kist Farms, Sweet Georgia Brand, and Pierce whole-grain-breaded chicken nuggets, patties, and popcorn-style fritters.
Customers are urged to discard affected products or return them to Pilgrim's Pride, and the company said in a statement that it is retraining all employees involved in production. Products being recalled include:
