Joseph Altuzarra may just be one of the few men who understands exactly how women want to dress. The designer's acute awareness of what's sexy and fresh was ever-present in his Fall '16 collection — an artful mix of prints; a sharp, concise palette; and all-out luxurious details punctuated his expert tailoring and the slit dresses and skirts that have now become an Altuzarra staple.
He's not dressing the blogger crowd; his customer is elevated and elegant, so while he draws from influences as varied as bohemian, Indian textiles, and structured womenswear, he blends them seamlessly. The resulting paisley prints, textured, braided knits, and fringed finishes leave garments touched with whimsy without losing their sensibility. Even the parade of finale dresses, flowing embroidered gowns, dotted in shimmer and made for the red carpet, are breathtaking, but never too theatrical. Their drama is the power and beauty of the women who will wear them — so we certainly hope someone's stylist is smart enough to snatch one up in time for the Oscars.
