Well, it happened. You spilled ketchup on your shirt/accidentally flashed a stranger/realized you forgot your wallet just when you were about to pay. It was a fashion girl fail for sure, and now that you've completely embarrassed yourself, you'd love nothing more than to curl up under your covers and never come out again.
But not so fast: we've been there, too. And have had plenty of time to think up a solution, saving you from ever committing this faux pas again. Avoid that look of pure panic in the future by reading over a few of our tips and just know you're far — far! — from alone.
Tip: Always triple check beforehand — especially when switching bags. If you realize last minute, you can always play it cool when you get to the register by asking them to hold the items until later.
Tip: It's all about the fit! If something's truly too small, throw it in your donate pile rather than try and make it work. Also, reinforce any loose stitching at home with a needle and thread or bring the piece to your local tailor.
Tip: Nail glue or superglue can work as a quick fix, but for a long term solution, have a cobbler replace the broken piece.
Tip: If you're worried about lines, opt for a thong or seamless underwear. This is also another reason to do your laundry on time — you'll always have plenty of pairs to choose from!
Tip: Quickly remove any marks with the help of pantyhose. Rub in small circles over the area to clean things up in a flash.
Tip: Tide To-Go or other stain-removing pens work wonders. Keep one in your bag at all times — it's just as large as a tube of mascara! — and always be prepared. Then, when you get home, give one these DIY methods a try.
Tip: If it's too much for a Tide To-Go pen to fix, grab a sweater and tie it around your waist. Thankfully, the '90s-inspired style is back.
Tip: Invest in a pair of short rubber rain boots for rainy days. They'll get the job done like the knee-length variety, but will blend in with your outfit once things clear up. If if's too late and you're already soaked, a bathroom hand dryer will always do the trick.
Tip: It's always wise to ask about the dress code beforehand — a simple text can make all the difference! If you're still not sure, rock heels and stick some flats in your bag. That little boost will make almost any outfit seem more elevated.
Tip: Again, this is definitely something you'll want to ask about beforehand, but if you're the only one wearing a dress, own it and act confident. As the Oscar Wilde quote goes, "you can never be overdressed or overeducated."
Tip: Most likely no one's noticed, but when you do, use a scissor to remove it to avoid any pulls.
Tip: If it's your shirt that might be an issue, use a safety pin or some double-sided tape to keep things in place. For skirts and dresses that may fly up in the wind, a pair of short workout shorts underneath will make you feel more secure.
Tip: Before leaving the house, check out your look in every type of light, natural and otherwise. It's also good to travel with layers. Aside from keeping warm, you'll be able to cover up if your look's a little too sheer.
