Ben & Jerry's Plans to Release CBD-Infused Ice Cream to Help You Chill Out in Every Way

Ben & Jerry's

For an ice cream company, Ben & Jerry's always manages to be at the forefront of cultural shifts and trends. The latest one it's tackling? CBD. Ben & Jerry's just announced plans to offer ice cream infused with CBD, or cannabidiol, once it's federally legalized. "We're doing this for our fans," CEO Matthew McCarthy said in a press statement. "We aspire to love our fans more than they love us and we want to give them what they're looking for in a fun, Ben & Jerry's way."

Though it differs from marijuana and does not contain THC, the compound which makes people high, CBD still isn't considered a controlled substance at the federal level. The Food and Drug Administration also currently has restrictions on CBD-infused food and beverages. That being said, the FDA will be holding a hearing on May 31 to explore a path to legalization.

If that does all happen, Ben & Jerry's said it plans on using CBD sourced from its home state of Vermont for the sweet treat. Though Ben & Jerry's has yet to announce any potential flavors or additional details, if its famously inventive pints are any indication, we're in for a chill treat in more ways than one.
