Every step of wedding planning is fraught with a million tiny design decisions. And when it comes to creating the perfect tablescape for your big day, you want to make sure you're deciding right, because the dinner table is a major focal point and sets the tone for the entire reception. To ensure we're decorating our wedding table to the full extent of its potential, we decided to call in expert Danielle Mitchell, design manager at the renowned La Tavola Fine Linen Rentals. Whether you want to learn how to use table linens to get the biggest bang for your budget buck or you want to use them to give your luxurious affair "wow" factor, Danielle has some must-read pro tips. Check them out ahead.

POPSUGAR: What are the hottest wedding linen trends for 2017?

Danielle Mitchell: We are seeing a rise in lace and cutouts but not traditional lace, a more modern and edgy look. Subtle sequins are making a statement like a sequin overlay to add more dimension to the table. Sequins over velvet would be a "wow" factor!

PS: Are there any underrated linens that look great and you wish brides wanted more?

DM: Brides tend to shy away from patterns or a unique linen, but when you have a standout linen, you can save more on pricey tabletop. Brides also tend to want to match, but mixing colors and patterns creates visual interest on the table.

PS: Are there any wedding linens that do well year after year, classics if you will?

DM: Tuscany natural is a wedding staple — it is a neutral linen with understated elegance. Our velvet collection is quickly becoming a classic, and we expect to see the style continuing in weddings this year. It gives such a luxe, rich look and feel to the table. Sequins also does really well for brides and grooms that want a more glam look.

PS: What styles are out this year?

DM: In terms of colors, we are seeing a shift away from blush and more towards classic neutrals, and instead of gold, a wider array of metallics.

PS: Any pro tips on how to use linens to create an over-the-top, gorgeous table?

DM: Linen with a bit of texture shows up better in photos. Length is also important; at La Tavola, we make our linens drape and puddle for a more luxurious look.

PS: What important element of wedding linens do brides tend to overlook?

DM: Doing a mock-up is super important to see how the linen is going to look at your venue. Keep in mind lighting as well. Ask for sample linens so you can see the linen come to life at your venue.

PS: How much should the wedding venue influence your table design decisions?

DM: You can define your own color palette; do not let your surroundings dictate your table. If you make your table the focal point, that is really what guests are going to see.

PS: Anything else you want to add?

DM: The best thing about renting is that we take care of all the cleaning. There is no bad choice, and there are so many styles, a bride can always find something that matches her aesthetic.
