It probably feels like it's just circulating hot air — and that's because it pretty much is. A simple way to solve that is to change the direction your fan to go counterclockwise. That will force the air to blow downward and create a cool breeze. Not only will you be able to enjoy a chill effect but it can also help reduce your energy costs now that you don't have to crank up the thermostat.

Redirecting your fan blades can be done with the remote it came with, or by locating the reverse switch on the fan's motor.

During the Winter, however, you'll want your fan running reverse (clockwise) and at a low speed to force any warm air near the ceiling down. This will allow heat to circulate more evenly.
