The "Dentist Beard" Is the Hottest New Trend in Facial Hair

It's hard to resist a man with a bushy beard, but according to The Guardian, dudes seem to be trimming away their facial hair in favor of a shorter style. Sam Hickey, the senior barber at Hackett Spitalfields in London, told the outlet that he's seeing men take their beards "shorter and sharper." "It leaves a fuller front, which could entail a swing towards seeing more goatees in the not too distant future," said Hickey.

The most popular style these days tends to be "the dentist beard," modeled here by George Clooney. What differentiates this look from a typical goatee is its robust yet manicured appearance. Some might say that it looks too polished, suggesting "perfectionism and malevolence" in the wearer and drawing a parallel to another goatee-sporting figure: the devil.

However, we think this gives both dentists and those with fastidious facial hair a bad reputation. We'd much rather admire a tidy goatee than a wiry, untamed one. We also like this trend because it shows off our favorite part of a man's face — the jawline! (Yum.) Read on to see more famous fans of the dentist beard.
