Liquid courage comes from a shot (or five) of tequila. Liquid confidence, however? That's all in your fragrance.

It's why you might be tempted to mist with abandon before a job interview, but know this: musky perfume is the beauty version of black leather — sexually evocative by nature, and therefore must be used with moderation in a professional setting. That doesn't mean you have to skip scent altogether, but you want to find a light and airy elixir that screams "self-assured," while also being mindful of your potential employer's olfactory experience.

Unclear of which perfume can work as a power move in the workplace? We asked POPSUGAR editors to share the spritzes that helped them secure the position.

Byredo Gypsy Water

Byredo Gypsy Water

"I read once that you shouldn't wear perfume to a job interview in case the person who is interviewing you finds it offensive, but I'm a big believer in standing out, and nothing leaves a lasting impression (literally) like a good scent. I do try to avoid the heavy florals or powdery scents when attending an important meeting, and instead opt for fragrances that are popular and universally loved. My go-tos have been Glossier You or Byredo Gypsy Water ($65). They're familiar enough that the interviewer won't find it repelling, but unique enough in that they smell different on every person.

In terms of application — keep it light. Just a touch on your wrists and behind your ear. The last thing you want to do is dose your best interview outfit in Eau de Toilette." — Amanda Murray, senior native style editor

Calvin Klein Women

Calvin Klein Women

"Like showing up to a big meeting in a perfectly tailored suit, a crisp fragrance can make you feel just as sharp. Take it from this Calvin Klein Women ($84): I've never worn it to a job interview per se, mostly because the scent of subtle orange flower and fresh eucalyptus only just hit the market, but it has earned me some pretty nice compliments from my colleagues — which makes it enough of a confidence-booster for me." — Kelsey Castañon, senior beauty editor

Clinique Happy Fragrance

Clinique Happy Fragrance

"I'm a pretty ritualistic person, so for job interviews or other BFD-days, I always bust out the same perfume, and I have ever since watching Elle Woods spritz it on during the first few seconds of Legally Blonde. While preparing for a big date, the law student spritzes on Clinique Happy Fragrance ($69). For some reason, it made a big impact on middle-school me, and I used money earned from my Summer job picking blueberries to buy a bottle. I think the clean and classic floral scent leaves you smelling fabulously low-key. During job interviews, I want to come off as capable and confident, without trying too hard. This scent is the perfect way to let people know you smell good, but it's NBD. . . that's your just natural aura." — Alaina Demopoulos, beauty writer

Gucci Bloom

Gucci Bloom

"I'm not typically a floral fragrance type of gal, but Gucci Bloom ($128) is my exception. It conveniently comes in a rollerball, which I keep in my purse for easy access and last minute dabs, ahead of things like auditions and presentations. Since tuberose, the top note, is a known circulatory when applied topically, I'd like to think the scent helps get my blood pumping, too. Plus, everyone always asks what I'm wearing when I have it on, which leaves a great impression." — Kirbie Johnson, host and senior video reporter

Atelier Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume

Atelier Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume

"When I need an extra boost of confidence, I always spritz on Atelier's Orange Sanguine Cologne Absolue Pure Perfume ($135). Unlike the traditional floral, flirty scents that I reach for, this one has zesty notes of bitter orange that feels much for energizing. I usually spray this on if I'm feeling sluggish before work or any special event, and it instantly wakes up my senses." — Aimee Simeon, assistant beauty editor

Aerin Lilac Path Eau de Parfum

Aerin Lilac Path Eau de Parfum

"When I'm going on an interview, I try to find a scent that both makes me feel confident and isn't too overpowering. I frequently turn to Aerin Lilac Path ($125) for a fresh fragrance that won't overwhelm my interviewer. I love that it smells crisp, lightly floral, and makes me feel sophisticated enough to take on anything." — Sarah Siegel, assistant editor, beauty and shop

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb

"Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb ($165) is my go-to, but because it's on the more expensive side, I only use it on really special occasions. It makes me feel like a badass who's ready to take on the world. I always get compliments when I wear it." — Celia Fernandez, assistant editor, trending and Latina

Chanel Coco

Chanel Coco

"When I need a confidence boost for interviews, I whip out my secret weapon: Chanel Coco ($100). My mom wore it growing up, and I'd see her spray it on after putting on her blazer every morning before work. To me, it is the epitome of elegance, and makes me feel ready to impress." — Chari Perez, social media intern
