What I'm about to say may upset some people, but it needs to be heard: you don't need to spend a lot of money to get the best mascara. In fact, drugstore mascaras are some of my favorites. To further prove my point, allow me to introduce you to the new Maybelline New York Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara ($10). At half the price of an Erewhon smoothie, it's fair to say you're getting your money's worth and then some.

The drugstore beauty brand has been crushing it in the mascara category for decades, and its newest innovation is no exception. As the name suggests, it's supposed to give you fake-looking lashes with just a few swipes of the brush. Ahead, read my full review of the new Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara.

What I Like About the Maybelline New York Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara

I'm always looking for a product that'll lengthen my lashes and give them more volume, and the Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara does both of those things perfectly. The fluffy yet stiff brush is packed with extra-long, intertwined bristles that grab each eyelash and coat it in pigment while also separating it from the surrounding hairs. The formula features the brand's "hybrid fiber technology," which includes a mix of different-size fibers to extend your lashes beyond their natural length. Some mascaras claim to be clump-free, but this one truly gives you zero clumps — no matter how many coats you apply.

How to Use the Maybelline New York Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara

To apply the Maybelline New York Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara, I first curled my eyelashes to give them a little lift, as my natural ones are stick straight. Then I applied the mascara using upward motions from root to tip and wiggled the brush into my lash line as needed to make sure I got every individual hair. I repeated this step three times, dipping the mascara wand back into the tube in between each coat. Finally, holding the brush vertically, I used the tip to get the eyelashes in the inner and outer corners of my eyes. Then I used what was left on the brush to lightly coat my bottom lashes.

What to Consider Before Trying the Maybelline New York Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara

It's worth considering the length of your natural eyelashes before buying this new Maybelline mascara. The brush, while not jumbo like some of the brand's other options, is still on the larger side. Those with ultrashort eyelashes may need to use extra caution when applying it.
