These Photos of Frozen "Slurpee" Waves Will Blow You Away

Surfer and photographer Jonathan Nimerfroh was walking along the beach on a 10°F day in Nantucket, MA, last week and couldn't help but snap some pictures of the nearly frozen waves. There was so much ice in the water that the two- to three-foot waves basically turned into slush, with the consistency of "a 7-Eleven Slurpee." In an interview with The New York Times, Nimerfroh explained, "The snow was up to my knees, getting to the water. I saw these crazy half-frozen waves. Usually on a Summer day you can hear the waves crashing, but it was absolutely silent. It was like I had earplugs in my ears." The resulting images are totally stunning — keep reading to see them all now, and check out the equally remarkable photos of a completely frozen Niagara Falls.
