And Time Magazine's 2014 Person of the Year Is . . .

Time magazine has chosen its 2014 person of the year, and the winner is the Ebola fighters. The choice is made based on the magazine's judgment of which person or group had the largest impact on the world and media in 2014. This year, the other top nominees included the founder of Alibaba, the president of Iraqi Kurdistan, Vladimir Putin, and the Ferguson protesters. The Ebola fighters captured the top spot because of their dedication to treating patients at the risk of their own health and safety. So far, there have been 17,000 cases and 6,000 deaths in this outbreak. American doctor Kent Brantly, who was the first American affected and is featured on one of the Time covers, spoke to the Today show about the decision, stating, "Those who paid the highest price for their service are themselves West Africans. It's an honor for me to be considered as a part of that group."
