Megan Suri Wants Justice For Aneesa, So We Definitely Need a Season 3 of Never Have I Ever

In our Q&A series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs — from the last time they were starstruck to the last song they listened to. This week, Megan Suri takes our call.

Megan Suri is shaking things up in season two of Never Have I Ever. The 21-year-old actress plays a new Indian student at Sherman Oaks High named Aneesa whom Devi immediately sees as a threat. "I would describe Aneesa as just an effortlessly confident, radiant, fun, easygoing, sporty teenager who just really wants to blend in," Megan told POPSUGAR. "Not blend in in a sense of shying away from our culture, but more so just wanting to be accepted and liked, which I think is really almost every teenager's desire."

Megan was a fan of the first season of the series, so it was a dream come true for her to come on board for the second. "I still need time to just let it sink in . . . I'm still reeling," she gushed. "It's been really beautiful and kind of a treat really to see how well everyone fits into their characters throughout season two." Even though there's still no word whether there will be a third season of Never Have I Ever, Megan would totally be down to return.

"Aneesa is such a beloved character. She's the first character I've played in a very long time that has real substance and depth to her and some real complexity. As an actor, it's yummy to be able to play with stuff like that," she explained. "Without giving too much away, I think Aneesa kind of got the short end of the stick in a little bit of a way, and I want to see her either get that situation sorted out or just get what she deserves, because Aneesa is pretty dang cool." Yep, we think so too.

What was the last day on set of Never Have I Ever like?

I feel like most times, when it's the last day on set, it's really emotional and it's like, "Oh my God, I'm never going to see you again," and then everyone goes about their lives and forgets about each other. But the last taped season was super cool because the entire cast was there and it just felt like a bunch of friends making a TV show without the pressure of it being this already gargantuan hit.

What is the last thing you did with your Never Have I Ever costars off set?

Oh my goodness! The last thing that I did was a postbirthday celebration, because we had to follow very strict safety protocols on set per COVID. Ramona [Young], Lee [Rodriguez], and Christina [Kartchner], we actually all got together for my postbirthday celebration and hung out at Ramona's place with one of my best friends, and we ordered in ramen. We all just hung out and had a super-cool girls' night, and they baked me a cake. It was the sweetest thing ever.

Who is the last Never Have I Ever costar you texted?

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and she was upset at me for not showing her my full outfit on Zoom.

Last thing you did for self-care?

Ate some chow mein and watched TV in my bed for five days straight. That's what I like to do. I just like food. You give me good food, and I'm going to eat it.

Last thing you binge-watched on Netflix?

I've been watching so many shows right now. This is going to sound really bad and kind of maybe gross, but I actually just binge-watched the full season of season two [of Never Have I Ever] because we got a little preview and I was finally able to binge all of it. It's such a lame answer, kind of yucky, but that's what I watched.

Last song you listened to?

Oh, I was just listening to "The Real Slim Shady" by Eminem. I'm revisiting the Eminem classics.

Last book you read?

I have a problem where I buy all these kinds of books and I get really inspired and I'm like, "I'm going to start reading them." And then I read two chapters and I never touch them again, but the last book that I did start reading and I do intend on reading it all because it's really good was Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. It's his autobiography, and it's really, really good.

Last thing you ordered online?

Chow mein.

Last time you were starstruck?

I just recently had the pleasure of wrapping up a project, and although none of my scenes in the film take place with this actress — whose name I will drop right now, shamelessly — I ran into her unexpectedly, totally on a whim, and she came into the trailer. This actress, I don't know if you've ever heard of her, her name is Nia Long. No big deal, it's just Nia Long! She walked in being as gorgeous, sultry, and perfect as she is, and get this: she touched my hair and was like, "Your hair is so cute." So, I'm never growing out my hair again. I haven't washed my hair since she's touched it. If Nia Long touches your hair, you don't touch your hair ever again.

Last piece of advice you received that changed your life?

I feel like what I'm learning about life right now is that you can take other people's advice certainly, or you can listen to it, but ultimately, you have to make your own mistakes and learn on your own because those are the only ways that lessons really stick with you. So what I've learned throughout my mistakes is to just keep making them, because somehow these detours lead me to places I never imagined I could be, and they only further catalyzed my own personal evolution. We're human beings. We're not supposed to be perfect, and that's the beauty of it.
