Beyoncé recently covered Vogue's renowned September issue, but it's her photographer who just made history. The "APESH*T" singer chose 23-year-old Tyler Mitchell as her photographer, making him the first-ever black photographer to shoot a cover for Vogue. According to HuffPost, Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour gave Beyoncé full creative control of the shoot. "The reason a 23-year-old black photographer is photographing Beyoncé for the cover of Vogue is because Beyoncé used her power and influence to get him that assignment," a source told the publication. The photographer hails from Atlanta, though he currently resides in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.


He Graduated From New York University

Tyler graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU in September 2017, and has been making a name for himself in the photography industry ever since.


He Published a Book

After spending six weeks in Cuba as part of a documentary photography program in 2015, Tyler turned his photos into a 108-page book titled El Paquete, which translates to "The Package" in English.
