4 Questions You Still Have After the Grey's Anatomy Season 13 Finale

Even after 13 seasons of nonstop drama, Grey's Anatomy still manages to rip our hearts from our chests every damn season finale. It seems that each year, we find reasons to love the show again after surviving many convoluted plotlines. We remember to recognize it as not only an addictive nighttime soap but also a quality series with excellent writing and outstanding acting. The season 13 finale is no exception, featuring an emotional, badass performance from the exiting Jerrika Hinton, who plays Stephanie Edwards. The episode seems to revolve around the theme of fire — someone getting fired, old and new flames, and, of course, a literal fire. Keep reading to learn about how season 13's finale goes down and what questions remain.

What will become of Stephanie?

What will become of Stephanie?

Someone hand Jerrika Hinton an Emmy already! "Ring of Fire" marks Hinton's final episode on Grey's Anatomy (for now, maybe). Wow, what an exit. Rather than give Stephanie Edwards a soppy, maudlin whimper of an exit, Grey's Anatomy producers created one of the most stressful and epic episodes of all time. Somehow, Stephanie magically remains calm and focused.

Let's pick up from the previous episode: Stephanie survives the explosion set off by a rapist, who, engulfed in fire, approaches a flammable tank. She's still with the little girl, Erin, from the last episode and manages to treat her leg while the room continues to be engulfed in flames. After Stephanie literally walks through fire, they make it out to the stairwell and get to the roof. One problem: Stephanie doesn't have her badge. But then, the astute Grey Sloan resident spots her badge down the stairs. Another problem, though: while the pair successfully reach the roof, Erin passes out. Luckily, Ben finds them just in the nick of time. At the end of the episode, Stephanie tearfully thanks Dr. Webber for teaching her. She tells him that she's quitting to spend her life outside of the hospital. After surviving a situation like that, Stephanie should feel free to do anything.

What will happen after Owen and Nathan reunite with Megan?
ABC

What will happen after Owen and Nathan reunite with Megan?

The Army informs Owen that Megan has been found, after being a war prisoner for years. Owen, of course, is shocked and confused, feeling especially guilty for giving up on the search. The episode ends with Nathan rushing off to see Megan after Meredith breaks the news to him. Meredith smiles as he drives off into the distance, perhaps hiding a little bit of pain and regret. The show's producers aptly, perhaps cruelly, drop in Calum Scott's melancholy, haunting version of Robyn's "Dancing on My Own."

What will happen once they see Megan? She seems to be stable, but will she survive? We're rooting for Owen to rekindle his relationship with his long-lost sister. At the same time, it doesn't feel great to think about how much Meredith had opened herself up to be with Nathan, how much she had to put Derek's memory behind her. For crying out loud, they held hands! But Meredith has survived much worse, literally near-death experiences, so she will survive this too.

Will Japril be rekindled, or will Maggie and Jackson start something new?
ABC

Will Japril be rekindled, or will Maggie and Jackson start something new?

Jackson is fairly worried about MIA Stephanie. He runs around the building looking for her, only to come across a distressed and frazzled patient. When he comes out of the building, Maggie and April scream at him for being reckless and not thinking about Harriet and his family.

At the end of the episode, Maggie apologizes profusely to April, feeling as though she's overstepped a boundary. April tells her colleague that Jackson and Maggie obviously care for each other, so Maggie should go for it. Still, something about April's encouragement feels a little too curt to be completely genuine.

There's something really sweet about Jackson and April. It's mind-blowing to think how they survived so much together since season six. They truly care for one another, have a child together, and even share a secret tryst when Jackson awkwardly confronts his father. But it'll be interesting to see the dynamics between Jackson and Maggie, should the show writers pursue it (which they most likely will).

Is Minnick gone for good?
ABC

Is Minnick gone for good?

It's hard not to empathize with Minnick's predicament in the season finale. After all, she has her mind on confused, misplaced patients, a rapist potentially on the loose, a missing girl, and, well, a huge explosion. But Grey Sloan staff are loyal to their kind, and forgetting Stephanie is a huge mistake. Bailey fires Minnick after she tries to make excuses for her oversight. Even Catherine Avery can't defend Grey Sloan Memorial's Public Enemy No. 1.

Who didn't feel at least slightly satisfied when Stephanie tells smarmy rule enforcer Minnick to get out of her damn face while she was trying to save a little girl after surviving a horrifying encounter with a scalpel-wielding rapist and running through fire?

Minnick has been getting on most of the hospital's nerves after restructuring the teaching program and dethroning Richard Webber as a resident adviser. Except for Arizona, of course. As much as we want to respect that Minnick marches to the beat of her own drum, we can't help but dislike everything she's tried to do to the hospital. Bye, Felicia.
