This Suicide Squad Theory Means Jared Leto's Joker Is About to Be Completely Bonkers

Not only is the latest Suicide Squad trailer the craziest yet, it also gives us a potential hint about Jared Leto's Joker. We've seen so many iterations of the character on the big and small screens over the years, but a new theory states that we're about to see a Joker we've never seen in movies or TV before: the one from Batman: Endgame. Published in 2014, Batman: Endgame is a six-issue story that prominently features the darkest version of the Joker. Here's the cover, for your nightmares later:

DC Comics

As you can see, Leto's Joker really closely resembles the comic book version. He has slicked-back hair, crazy teeth, and half his face is pretty messed up — see the picture below. So why is it such a big deal if David Ayer did gather his inspiration from Batman: Endgame? The story arc takes place after another famous arc called "Death of the Family," in which Joker has a character named Dollmaker carve his face off. He disappears then disguises himself as an Arkham Asylum orderly named Eric Border. Here's a small sampling of what happens in Endgame:

  • The Joker releases an airborne pathogen all over Gotham, which makes everyone who is affected by it look like weirdly like the Joker and turns feelings of love into hatred.
  • He slices Detective Gordon in the chest with an axe.
  • He chops off Alfred's hand.
  • He explodes the cave system underneath Gotham.
  • At the end of the series, the Joker and Batman appear to die together when the caves collapse. It's revealed after the series that both survive.

If elements of this story are incorporated into Suicide Squad, all bets are off. We're about to see some really crazy sh*t.
