Wondering What Happened to the Plane on Manifest? Here Are 3 Possible Theories

Manifest is already shaping up to be one of this Fall's most intriguing series. While the show is filled with twists and turns, the biggest question on our minds is: what the heck happened on Montego Air Flight 828? After departing from Montego Bay Airport in Jamaica on April 7, 2013, the passengers on the aircraft get the surprise of a lifetime when they land on Nov. 4, 2018. Not only do they look exactly the same five years later, but they also seem to have new abilities, including hearing prophetic voices and getting visions. While there is plenty to unpack as the season goes along, here are three things that might have happened on that mysterious plane ride.

They Were Abducted by Aliens

Based on the way the airplane spontaneously explodes in the season one premiere, it seems there is another force at work here. Perhaps the reason the passengers have no recollection of the last five years is because they were abducted by aliens during their flight and their memories were wiped clean afterward. In fact, they might not even be themselves at all. What if the passengers are actually serving as hosts for aliens in an attempt to take over Earth?

They Were Saved by Angels

The show leans on some Biblical elements in the first episode. The episode starts off with Michaela Stone talking to her mother about Romans 8:28, which states, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Not only does the number 828 continue to appear throughout the episode, but Michaela starts to wonder if the reason for the voices in her head is because she is a "called one." Perhaps the turbulence on the flight was actually worse than it appeared and the passengers were saved by angels to fulfill a greater calling on Earth.

They Traveled Through Time

There are definitely some time-traveling elements at play here. While that would certainly explain why they didn't age a day, it could also explain their newfound abilities. So far, it seems like their voices and visions are prophetic. Perhaps when they traveled in time, it also gave them the ability to see into the future.
