Jennifer Hudson Rises to Superstardom in Trailer For Respect, an Aretha Franklin Biopic

Jennifer Hudson is taking center stage as Aretha Franklin. We got our first glimpse of Respect, the upcoming biopic about the legendary singer who died in August 2018 at the age of 76 after a long battle with cancer, when the teaser dropped during back in June 2020. Now MGM has finally released a full trailer and it's nothing short of incredible. In the trailer, Hudson fully embodies Franklin by demanding a little respect.

The film, directed by Liesl Tommy, follows the late singer's rise to superstardom. Hudson stars as Franklin alongside a star-studded cast, including Forest Whitaker, Audra McDonald, Mary J. Blige, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tracey Scott Wilson, and Tate Donovan. You can watch the trailers ahead before the film hits theaters this August 13.
