Netflix Teases Black Mirror Season 5 With Eerie New Posters

Black Mirror's fifth season is on the way, and as is typical for the Netflix sci-fi thriller, we have no idea what to expect . . . er, well, we didn't until we got a look at the new trailer, and the latest batch of photos, and three new posters courtesy of the streaming platform. Now we've been able to piece a teensy bit of the sure-to-be traumatizing puzzle together, from the big stars making up the new cast (Miley Cyrus, Anthony Mackie) as well as what stories are headed our way (robot dolls, lifelike video games, an Uber driver gone rogue). Take a peek at everything we've gleaned about season five, ahead.

Netflix

Pom Klementieff (Avengers: Endgame) faces off against an opponent in what looks like the inside of a Mortal Kombat-style video game.

Netflix

Andrew Scott (Sherlock) can be seen waving a gun and ranting about people being addicted to their phones in the trailer, whereas this photo shows the character in a more relaxed moment in the car. (Though, to be fair, that's his hostage in the back seat.)

Netflix

Presumably, these are the police officers sent to arrest Scott's character to keep him from doing something unhinged.

Netflix

Angourie Rice (The Nice Guys) will hold down an episode as an outcast at school who finds solace in a doll that has artificial intelligence. Perhaps the episode is titled "Child's Play"?

Netflix

Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Endgame) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman) have a tense discussion in a still from their episode, which seems to involve some relationship problems for Mackie.

Netflix

Here the characters are again, only this time it looks like it's a flashback to better times.

Netflix

The title of Miley Cyrus's episode is "Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too." According to Netflix's official description, the episode will follow "a lonely teenager who yearns to connect with her favorite pop star — whose charmed existence isn't quite as rosy it appears."

Netflix

The poster for the "Smithereens" episode ties in a lot of themes: an Uber driver gone rogue, the "end of the route" for someone, and a car that seemingly skidded into a field somewhere. The episode — which stars Andrew Scott, Damson Idris, and Topher Grace — is about "a cab driver with an agenda" who ends up as the "center of attention on a day that rapidly spirals out of control."

Netflix

Anthony Mackie, Nicole Beharie, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II hold down "Striking Vipers," which will follow two college buddies who connect later in life, "triggering a series of events that could alter their lives forever."
