I'd Like to Think Jake Gyllenhaal's Gorgeous Social-Distancing Love Song Is About Me

So I think I'm in love with Jake Gyllenhaal. OK, I was already in love with him, but after hearing him sing a new song, "Across the Way," my feelings have grown tenfold. The 39-year-old actor unveiled the beautiful ballad on Friday in collaboration with composer Jeanine Tesori and writer David Lindsay-Abaire. The trio are helping to support 24 Hour Plays, an organization that unites communities to produce plays and musicals that are written, rehearsed, and performed in 24 hours.

"A love song in the age of quarantine, this is 'ACROSS THE WAY' from the brilliant minds of @jeaninetesori and @lindsayabaire," Gyllenhaal captioned an Instagram video of his performance. "Written and recorded in 24 hours for the @24hourplays, it was an honor to collaborate with these two from across the way! If you can, please donate to @24hourplays."

For those who don't know, Gyllenhaal is a very skilled singer and Broadway star. In April, he showed off his vocals during a live YouTube celebration for composer Stephen Sondheim's 90th birthday. He and Annaleigh Ashford sang a passionate duet of "Move On" from Sunday in the Park With George. Gyllenhaal and Ashford starred in a 2017 Broadway revival of the musical, for which Sondheim wrote the music and lyrics. The pair were supposed to star in another production of the show in London this summer, but it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
