We're Low-Key Very Impressed With the Cast of The Meg

If you've been waiting for a sci-fi movie that doesn't have a hilariously bad premise (or even one that might compete with the awesomeness that is Jaws), then you're in luck. The Meg — which is loosely based on the 1997 book Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten — has both a seriously stacked cast and an incredibly creepy antagonist. Featuring a cast that you'd probably never have imagined appearing on the screen together, the story follows a team of scientists and an expert underwater diver who try to put an end to a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark (a threat that would make a great white shark look almost cute).

Jason Statham

The Fast and the Furious franchise actor Jason Statham stars in the film as Jonas Taylor, an expert deep-sea rescue diver who is recruited to save an undersea observation crew from a prehistoric, 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon.

Li Bingbing

Li Bingbing, who has starred in Hollywood blockbusters such as Resident Evil: Retribution and Transformers: Age of Extinction, plays Suyin Zhang, who recruits Jonas to rescue the crew despite Dr. Heller's protests.

Rainn Wilson

Also known as Dwight Schrute from The Office, Rainn Wilson appears in the film as Jack Morris, a tech billionaire who funds the underwater observation program (and unwittingly unleashes the Megalodon).

Ruby Rose

The stunning Orange Is the New Black breakout star Ruby Rose plays Jaxx Herd, an engineering whiz and member of a marine research team.

Cliff Curtis

Best known for his starring roles in The Dark Horse and Fear the Walking Dead, Cliff Curtis plays James "Mac" Mackreides, a supervisor at the research station who travels to Thailand with Suyin to recruit Jonas.

Page Kennedy

Page Kennedy, who played U-Turn in the Showtime series Weeds, appears in the movie as DJ, a drone pilot specialist in the marine crew.

Jessica McNamee

Australian actress Jessica McNamee, who is best known for playing Theresa Kelly on USA Network's Sirens, plays Lori, one of the researchers in the marine's submersible when it first hits the Megalodon and loses contact with the station.

Robert Taylor

Known for playing title character Walt Longmire in the A&E series Longmire, Robert Taylor appears in the movie as Dr. Heller, who objects to the use of Jonas in the rescue mission, due to Jonas's scarring brush with a shark five years earlier.

Masi Oka

Best known for his role on NBC's Heroes as Hiro Nakamura, Masi Oka plays Toshi, another researcher aboard the submersible with Lori.
