Who Is It This Time? 8 Pretty Little Liars Girls Who Could Be the New Red Coat

Surprises are a dime a dozen on Pretty Little Liars, but we have to admit, we really didn't see this coming. As we near this week's Summer finale of the sixth season, Red Coat has appeared again. Although we still don't know who "A" is, and although we only have a couple of suspects and a small wealth of information on Charles DiLaurentis, this was one case we thought was closed. We thought the two Red Coats were Ali and CeCe, but could there be a third? Keep reading for a fresh batch of theories, and then have some fun with our Rosewood travel guide.

CeCe Drake
Freeform

CeCe Drake

Why She's Red Coat:

  • CeCe has clearly been in the "A" game multiple times. What's more, duh, she was one of the two Red Coats last time!
  • She's been totally off the map for quite a while, giving her plenty of time to plan, conspire, and touch base with "A."
  • Remember how Mrs. DiLaurentis was communicating with CeCe (and even giving her new clothes) before "A" murdered her? Clearly CeCe's role in this whole tangled web isn't complete, and this is the perfect place for her to pop back up.
  • CeCe's loyalty was never, ever a guarantee. Sometimes it seems like she's on the girls' side, and sometimes it seems like she loathes them all. If she does hate the girls, it would make sense for her and "A" to link up.

Why She's Not Red Coat:

  • Recently, CeCe has been under intense police scrutiny, so we have a hard time believing she'd be able to get around without anyone noticing her. Plus, if she were trying to lay low, the last thing she would do is get involved in this mess again.
  • Last we saw CeCe, she was on a plane to who-knows-where. We think she's probably far, far away.
  • If CeCe was Red Coat before, isn't it a little too obvious for her to be Red Coat again? Given this show's track record, probably.

Lesli Stone

Lesli Stone

Why She's Red Coat:

  • Lesli Stone is shady as hell. Per Mona, we know she's a little unhinged, and she's not too happy with our Liars. Could she have finally snapped and turned to the dark side? Was she there all along?
  • She was in Radley at the same time as Charles. If Charles is really the person in the black hoodie, it would not be a long shot at all for Lesli to be in the Red Coat, commiserating with "A."
  • This season, Lesli has a run-in with the girls at The Brew, and she says something along the lines of, "I believe in payback, too." That's some pretty damning evidence, guys.

Why She's Not Red Coat:

  • Too obvious. Lesli sticks out like a sore thumb as both an "A" candidate and a Red Coat candidate. When it comes to this show, such an easy connection is, more often than not, a red herring.
  • While it does seem that Lesli is tied up in this whole mess, she didn't actually appear until recently, and Red Coat has been around a lot longer.
  • Lesli claims she doesn't really know Charles. If this is true, then maybe she really isn't involved after all. Maybe she's just the victim of unfortunate circumstances.

Jenna Marshall

Jenna Marshall

Why She's Red Coat:

  • C'mon, this one's a no-brainer. Jenna has been sketchy from the very start, and we haven't seen her for a while. If anyone was going to join forces with "A" and stage a takedown, it would be her.
  • Some viewers and hardcore fans have noticed that Red Coat's first appearance happens around the time Jenna gets her sight back. Same with when she loses it. Could the two incidents be coincidence? Or a telling detail?
  • Jenna has been gone for a while (just like a few other suspects on this list). This would give her plenty of time to go undercover and wreak some havoc.

Why She's Not Red Coat:

  • The last time we see Jenna, she's still blind. And Red Coat, who is last spotted driving "A" around, obviously has sight. Unless Jenna has her sight back again, she's out.
  • Jenna's been hurt time and time again at the hands of "A," so we have a hard time believing the two would be in cahoots.

Sara Harvey

Sara Harvey

Why She's Red Coat:

  • We still have no idea how Sara ended up in that crazy "A" dollhouse. What does she have to do with all this? Could she have merely been a decoy?
  • Last time Red Coat was around, she had long blonde hair. But this time around, we can't see any hair at all. And, hey, who just cut all her hair off? Sara.
  • It's all too convenient, isn't it? Sara's in the dollhouse, and then she really moves in on Emily. Once she vacates Emily's place and goes to live with another friend, she falls off the map. Which, oddly, is right when Red Coat comes back. Coincidence? Maybe not.

Why She's Not Red Coat:

  • Sorry guys, but Sara seems clueless. Like, we have a hard time believing she's capable of harming anyone. She can't even take care of herself.
  • Remember that terrifying video of "A" holding a knife to Sara while she's sleeping? It would be weird it they both teamed up after that.
  • Assuming Sara really was in captivity all that time, there's no way she could have been one of the Red Coats causing chaos before. And it really seems like she was in the dollhouse for a while. She's a mess.

Melissa Hastings

Melissa Hastings

Why She's Red Coat:

  • This wouldn't be the first time Melissa has hidden behind a mask. Remember when she dressed up at the Queen of Hearts?
  • We know a couple things about Melissa's involvement in this whole mess. One, we know she's really, really tangled up in it. Two, we know she's probably not telling us everything she knows. Seems pretty shady to us.
  • If Melissa accidentally killed Bethany Young, and if Bethany Young is somehow linked to Charles, there might be a reason that she'd want to be in contact with Charles. This would explain why Red Coat and "A" have joined forces. That is, if "A" is actually Charles.

Why She's Not Red Coat:

  • Melissa has allegedly been in London for quite some time, and we have to say, it seems legit.
  • You know, seeing as Melissa killed Bethany Young, wouldn't she be against Charles? Wouldn't she be trying to take him down?
  • On that same note, at the bottom of everything, Melissa is trying to protect Spencer. At least, that's what she says. If she's telling the truth, the last thing she would do is link up with "A."

Paige McCullers

Paige McCullers

Why She's Red Coat:

  • Oh, Paige. Paige is allegedly in California, but haven't heard so much as a peep from her since she disappeared. Seems pretty shifty, since she was so involved in the Liars' lives before.
  • Paige hates Ali. Remember how Ali used to call her "Pigskin"? Remember how Paige tried to drown Emily? We have a feeling Paige isn't as innocent as she looks.
  • She has a knack for sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. Remember how she leaves a note for the police, telling them that Ali is alive and where they can find her? Like, come on!

Why She's Not Red Coat:

  • You know, we have to say: we really do believe Paige loves Emily, regardless of what they've been through together. We just can't imagine Paige participating in a huge scheme that would result in Emily's harm.
  • If Paige moved away, there's a chance she's just gone. People move on. People fall out of touch. Sh*t happens.

Alison DiLaurentis
Freeform

Alison DiLaurentis

Why She's Red Coat:

  • Ali's been Red Coat before, so there's a chance she can be reprising her role.
  • There's still so much we don't know about Ali's disappearance. It's years of unexplained time! We don't know how involved with "A" she was, and we don't know what shady Red Coat deeds from before are hers.
  • Despite all the evidence that Ali has changed and Ali is good, we're still not so sure. Maybe she's trying to get close to Charles, because she seems to be pretty sympathetic toward him.

Why She's Not Red Coat:

  • Ali seems so desperate to get in touch with "A" and Charles, and yet, Red Coat is already in the circle. We have a feeling Red Coat has a higher level of clearance than her.
  • Ali really seems to have turned a new leaf. We doubt she'd be conspiring with "A" to execute one last takedown.
  • Mr. DiLaurentis has been obsessively keeping an eye on his daughter. How could Ali sneak out and assume Red Coat's identity when she's under such intense surveillance?

Maya St. Germain
Freeform

Maya St. Germain

Why She's Red Coat:

  • OMG, wouldn't this be so juicy? We never see Maya's body. We don't know for sure she's dead. And we do know that she plays into this whole thing more than we're aware of.
  • Bianca Lawson, the actress who plays Maya, has not shut down the possibility of Maya's return. In fact, she almost hinted at it: "You never know. Maybe."
  • Everyone thinks Maya's dead. If that doesn't clear your schedule for plenty of shenanigans, we don't know what does.

Why She's Not Red Coat:

  • Well, let's be real. There's a very good chance Maya is actually dead. Sorry, guys.
  • Also, we really do think Maya and Emily cared about each other a lot. Why would Maya go behind Emily's back and betray her like that?
  • Also, we can't really figure out what Maya's motive would be. She kind of comes into the show once everything is already in motion. But who knows for sure, right?
