8 Brand-New Netflix Movies Comin' at Us Throughout December

Netflix is the gift that keeps on giving, and in December, the streaming service is gifting us eight new original movies to round out 2019. This month, you can expect to see Ryan Reynold's highly anticipated Netflix debut, Netflix's first original movie from the Philippines, the third installment in the Christmas Prince trilogy, and five more movies perfect for holiday binge-watching. Though it's hard to imagine watching anything other than all of the incredible holiday movies available to watch on Netflix (including Netflix's many holiday originals), we think these eight latest movies are worth taking a break from your Christmas movie marathon.

Said to be Netflix's most expensive movie to date, this Michael Bay-directed film (written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the creators of the Deadpool franchise) stars Ryan Reynolds and tells the story of six billionaires who fake their own deaths to form an elite team of underground crime fighters.

Based on Anthony McCarten's 2017 play The Pope, this biographical dramedy stars Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce as conservative Pope Benedict XVI and liberal Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio (i.e. the future Pope Francis), centering on their relationship as they attempt to forge a new path for the Catholic Church together, despite their wildly different opinions.

This magical realist rom-com from Mexico isn't quite your typical biopic. Though centered on real-life Mexican film and music icon Pedro Infante, this movie tells the story of an Infante stuck in limbo between earth and heaven after dying due to his womanizing ways, and when he begs for another chance to make amends, he gets that chance — though he must do it through the body of an impersonator.
