"Sweet Life: Los Angeles" Has "Something Really Big" in Store For Season 2

Our favorite Los Angeles besties are back for another season of "Sweet Life: Los Angeles" — cue the Blxst "Gang Slide" theme song! Eight months after renewing the Issa Rae-produced reality series, HBO Max released the trailer for season two on July 25, and it looks like there's loads of drama ahead.

"When we started filming season two, it was some of that stuff that really needed to be addressed, and it was [handled] in some serious ways in [this season]."

"We have a lot of work to do within this friendship," Tylynn Burns says frankly in the two-and-a-half-minute clip. If viewers remember from last season, the "Sweet Life: Los Angeles" group chat/reunion episode had a lot of shocking reveals — including what really happened after *that* podcast episode and the surprising love triangles within the group — and season two picks up right after with some damage control.

Series star Jerrold Smith II tells POPSUGAR that his friend group "needed a little bit of time to breathe" after season one because "everything wasn't copacetic after that reunion." "Everything that you saw in season one, everything that you saw in the reunion was real emotions, real feelings, real arguments, real disagreements, and that's not stuff that just gets solved overnight," he adds. "When we started filming season two, it was some of that stuff that really needed to be addressed, and it was [handled] in some serious ways [this season]."

In spite of the drama, Smith II says he's grateful that his friends have a platform that allows them to sort through their issues in a productive manner. "What I really love about 'Sweet Life' . . . we never really have gone through anything . . [so the show] forces us to have those really uncomfortable conversations, especially when we're put in those situations. Because now it's not just us invested in these issues, it's everyone that has an HBO Max subscription invested in it."

In case you forgot, "Sweet Life: Los Angeles" offers a refreshing glimpse into the lives of a close-knit group of ambitious Black 20-somethings in South LA, all of whom are navigating their way through love, friendships, and career goals. Read ahead for everything we know about season two, which premiered on Aug. 4 — including who from the charismatic crew returns and what else to expect from them.

"Sweet Life: Los Angeles" Season 2 Plot

Per the season two trailer, "Sweet Life: Los Angeles" picks up right where the crew left off after the season one reunion: repairing their strained friendships while balancing their business endeavors. Smith II tells us that things are "very different" in season two compared to what we've already seen from this friend group. "You get to see a lot more behind the scenes of everything," he says. "Because of how season one ended, you're going to learn a lot more about some of the folks that were in [it]. A deeper dive on some of them, get to know a little bit more about some of our businesses, and what we do on a daily."

Smith II also teases that the crew takes another trip in season two, but he's more excited about showcasing a personal surprise that highlights "what I get to do on a daily." "I have something really big, I'm not going to say exactly what it is . . . Probably won't see it until closer to the end of the season, but it's something really cool that I was able to bring to the table," he shares.

Will “Sweet Life: Los Angeles” Season 2 Have a Reunion Episode?

According to Smith II, he can neither confirm nor deny if the reality TV series will have another in-person group chat at the end of the season. However, he does assure us that "there are ten episodes in season two." Season one also had ten total episodes — nine regular plus a reunion moderated by host Kamie Crawford. So, it may be safe to assume season two will also end with another group chat special.
