How 1 Boy Made Christmas For Families With Sick Children a Merry One

Most children wake up Christmas morning and can't wait to run downstairs in their pajamas to rip open their gifts from Santa — but not Jerry Hatcher Jr. On Christmas morning last year — and the two years before — Jerry woke up, put on his best suit, grabbed the wad of cash he'd been saving up and working for all year, and headed over to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to perform Christmas miracles.

Unfortunately for Jerry, he understands what it's like to be in the hospital with your family around Christmas — the time of the year that is supposed to be the happiest — after almost losing his little brother to illness. To combat the sadness and stress that comes with living in a hospital with a sick child, Jerry took to the hospital cafeteria, hid behind the cash registers, and popped up every time a patient's family tried to buy their items. He'd pull out his wad of cash, pay for their food, and wish the family a merry Christmas.

Photos of the boy's incredibly selfless mission were posted to Facebook, and the commenters — many of whom were those treated to their breakfast by Jerry — had nothing but amazing things to say about him.

This young man brought tears to my eyes this morning when he so graciously purchased breakfast for my husband and I. We have been here at CHOA with our 4-month-old for the last few days — and have been very emotional and overwhelmed. The selfless action of this young man this morning brought so much joy to my heart. What a blessing he is!! He is truly making a difference in this community!!!! May God bless him and his family!!! Merry Christmas!
