This Mom's Comic Series Totally Nails the Differences Between Raising Your First and Second Child

Weng Chen

Weng Chen, a game designer and mom from Seattle, knows a thing or two about the chaos that ensues when you bring a second little one into the family. She decided to express exactly what the differences are between raising your first kid versus the second one by making comics. And honestly, any parent with more than one child will be muttering "Yep, that sounds about right" under their breath while reading them.

The busy mom told POPSUGAR that she started to notice differences in her parenting choices as soon as she gave birth to her second kiddo.

"After I had my second child, I had the urge to express my thoughts and feelings, so I went for my instinct," she said. "It was fun and meaningful to document my children's growth as well as mine. Having children changed my life. It made me work, think, grow up, and not sleep."

But as much as being a parent is hard, it's also Weng's biggest source of inspiration. "When I struggled as a mom in my daily life, I often got outside of my body and looked at the situation from a third-person view. Things became funny and less miserable."

At the end of the day, this busy mom has one goal in mind: giving parents a much-needed laugh.

"I want to share my comics because I get joy and inspirations from reading other people's parenting stories. I hope they make people happy," she explained. "I also had my readers tell me, 'I cried when reading your work' and 'Thanks for giving me the strength.' Everybody interprets the comics differently based on their own experiences and emotions. I just try to write down what I went through and express my real thoughts and feelings in a humorous way."
