Dad Makes the Most Incredible Chair to Read to 3 Kids at the Same Time

Hal Taylor loved to read to his children, but when his third child was born, he ran into a problem: his lap just wasn't big enough to seat three kids. And, his youngest daughter, Rose, quickly made it clear that "she was not going to be left out of the reading crowd," he said.

So, his first solution was to have his oldest child, Rachael, stand by the chair during story time. "I felt this was not at all fair," he admitted.

Thankfully, Taylor, an expert craftsman who made rocking chairs for a living, thought of a way to make it work. He created the StoryTime Rocking Chair, a clever, handmade multiseat rocker that gave him and all three of his kids a comfortable place to enjoy a good read.

He first built the StoryTime chair 20 years ago, and although he and his now-grown children likely don't use it anymore, he continues to make and sell them online — for a hefty price tag. The chairs sell for roughly $7,000, but he explains why.

"Each piece of wood in the chair is carefully matched," he wrote on his site. "There are over 200 precisely cut and shaped pieces of wood, which I use to make up the 19 back braces. This is more pieces than you will find in 20 normal rocking chairs! This is one of the very few chairs you can purchase that your great-grandchildren will be using to read to their grandchildren! What is that worth to you?"

Seems like a bargain.
