Use Tape to Create a Geometric Artwork

This is a fun yet simple way to get creative with your child and encourage budding math skills. Masking tape turns into long lines, angles, corners, and a variety of shapes to be painted in with favorite colors. It's a great way to brighten up a dreary rainy day!

What You'll Need:

  • Canvas
  • Masking tape
  • Acrylic paint
  • Scrap paper
  • Foam brush

Directions:

  1. Offer your child lengths of tape, and encourage her to arrange them in an interesting way. Let her drive the design, but if things are looking like a jumbled mess, suggest using the entire canvas for the creation.

  1. Cover the work area to protect your space and select three colors of paint together with your child to use for the painting. Squeeze a small amount on a scrap of paper, offer your child a foam brush, and cover the canvas with color.
  2. Once dry, help your child remove the tape and reveal the painting. Find a spot to hang so everyone can enjoy the creation.
