You Go Girl! 11-Year-Old Startles Home Intruder With Shotgun

An 11-year-old Michigan girl is being hailed a hero after some quick thinking and hunting experience that not only saved her life, but saved her home from being robbed.

On Friday afternoon, the tween, who was home alone, saw a vehicle enter the driveway. After a man knocked on the home's doors and didn't get a response, he proceeded to force his way in. The girl, who was expecting her parents home from work any minute, quickly locked herself in the bathroom and hid in the closet with a shotgun by her side.

Once the intruder forced his way into the bathroom, he was greeted by the end of her shotgun and fled the scene. About 30 minutes later, the intruder and another suspect were apprehended, and they are currently in custody at the Lapeer County Jail.

"The 12-gauge shotgun is her weapon," said Lapeer County Sheriff Detective Sgt. Jason Parks. "She and her father are into hunting and avid sportsmen. She was familiar with that weapon."

As for questions about the tween being at home by herself, Parks said, "She is fully capable of staying there by herself, as we can clearly see based on this situation. She was able to defend herself from an intruder and be able to resolve an event even most adults would be taken aback by."

Looks like Mom and Dad have a lot to be proud of at home!
