Important Life Lessons Our Moms Taught Us

Moms are a big part of our lives, which is why we partnered with method for life lessons our mothers passed along to us.

Moms don't ask for much, just a little acknowledgement here and there for all the behind-the-scenes work they do. And it's more than one might think. Along with largely being responsible for keeping kids fed, clean, and somewhat entertained, moms are also behind budding values and aspirations. We polled our editors for life lessons they learned from their mothers in celebration of all moms everywhere.

"Whenever I have a big meeting or presentation with someone important, I remember what my mom told me, which is everyone puts their pants on one leg at a time. I instantly feel better, remembering they are a normal person just like me."

"The greatest life lesson my mom taught me is that family is THE most important thing."

"My mom always reminded me to do what makes you happy and never put up with someone treating you poorly."

"This might sound funny, but she would tell me to go wherever your belly takes you. Use your GPS (Gastro Palate System), which I did! My belly landed me in San Francisco."

"Wear clean underwear . . . just in case you get into an accident. I'm pretty sure she stole this gem from someone else, but it's a good reminder."

"Save your pennies, they add up to something. So now every time I see a penny, I pick it up — and think of my mom."

"My mother was known for saying that it all gets better when you're 30. I'm sure hoping it does."

"She used to tell me: don't let facts get in the way of a good story. And now it's a mantra I think about every day."

"My mom reminded me growing up that you're never too old to play. At the time I didn't really get what she meant, but now that I have a daughter, I try to find time to play every day. It makes life fun!"

"She told me to never take anything for granted. My mom said this all the time when I was little, which isn't really something a 5-year-old understands. But as I grow older, I try to cherish the important things around me."

"Always say 'please,' 'thank you,' and 'I love you' when you mean it. Especially the 'I love you' part. When a close friend got sick, it changed everything, and I made sure to start telling others that I loved them."
