When a Man Asked 1 Breastfeeding Mom to Cover Up, She Suggested He Cover His Face

When a mom is breastfeeding her baby, she's literally sustaining a human life and deserves to be respected, not shamed for it. Unfortunately, some people still don't get this and feel the need to go out of their way to make nursing moms feel uncomfortable about this natural act.

Avery Lane is the latest mom to speak out about a man trying to stop her from breastfeeding in public. Although her infuriating story is similar to what many nursing mamas experience on a daily basis, her response to this stranger is nothing short of perfect and will hopefully empower others to stand up for themselves in the future.

When Avery was breastfeeding her 2-month-old son at a H&R Block located on the military post where she lives on, the manager asked her to cover up. "I was completely shocked so I raised my voice slightly and said, 'No but I have a muslin if you would like to cover your face,'" she wrote on Facebook. "'You must not know Georgia's breastfeeding laws.'"

Unfortunately, the man didn't take Avery up on her offer and instead asked her to leave since he was helping her friend and not her. "So I then called the Military Police so they could come and inform him of [the laws]." The officers arrived and explained that he couldn't force a breastfeeding mom out of his store and gave their personal support to Avery as she continued to nurse. "I'm only posting this because I hope more moms will stand up to normalize breastfeeding," she wrote. "I refuse to cover my child or nurse in my car."
