50 Years Later, a Mom Finally Meets the Daughter She Thought Was Dead

It was a bittersweet reunion for a mom who met her daughter for the first time in 49 years. Zella Jackson Price had given birth to a baby girl at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis in 1966, but she was told shortly afterward her baby had died. Unbeknownst to Zella, her daughter, Melanie Diane Gilmore, was adopted by another family. It wasn't until Melanie's own children — who wanted to help find her biological birth mom — searched the Internet and came across Zella that the two reconnected.

"(God) has given me everything the devil has taken from me," said Zella. "I'm getting it back. I'm getting my baby back."

Melanie, who lost her hearing when she was little, said the reunion was something she has wanted for a long time. The two shared emotional, tearful hugs upon seeing each other, and Melanie also met her brother Harvey for the first time. "There's nothing greater," said Zella. "There's nothing greater than this. Nothing."
