The Tragic Way a Mom and Baby Died During the Snowstorm Will Break Your Heart

A New Jersey father was trying to shovel his family's car out of the snow when he found his 3-year-old daughter in critical condition and both his wife and baby boy dead.

The young family was waiting in their running vehicle while their father was shoveling the snow, but unknowingly, the tailpipe was blocked. After 20 minutes of working to clear the snow, the dad went back to check on his family, when he found his wife and 1-year-old son unresponsive from carbon monoxide poisoning.

The mother and children had to be pulled from the car, and neighbors were attempting CPR by the time police arrived at the scene. Mayor Alex Blanco said that the family was cold after playing outside and just wanted to warm up in the car but didn't know to worry about what silent danger carbon monoxide can be.

The names of the victims have not yet been released, and Passaic police say that the little girl is currently hospitalized in "very critical condition" at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

"It's heartbreaking, it's something you can't foresee," Blanco said. "It's something that is not on 'the list' of things not to do during a storm. We'll all have to add that to the list. Something like this, I probably would have made the same mistake."
