9 Easter Egg Hunt Ideas That Will Take the Fun One Hop Further

One of the best parts of Easter, for both parents and children, is the beloved Easter egg hunt. Decorating the eggs can be the perfect family activity — the colors are bright, the weather is warmer, and the sun is (hopefully) shining. But hiding said eggs in the same spots year after year can get a bit monotonous, so why not switch it up a bit? Whether you want to go all-out with an over-the-top and memorable hunt, or if it's time to cut back a bit and simplify the holiday, there are lots of ways to make your Easter egg hunt unique and memorable. Read on for some of our favorites!

01

Golden Easter Egg

Instead of hiding dozens (or hundreds) of Easter eggs this year, have your kids hunt for one very special egg. This version is all about the hunt itself as it's a race to see who can find it first, but you can have some treats waiting for your children when the hunt is over. And if your kids are fans of Harry Potter, you can really have fun with this by breaking up kids into different houses (teams)!

02

Easter Scavenger Hunt

Put together a fun scavenger hunt for kids who might have outgrown the traditional Easter egg hunt! They can be done in groups or individually, and everyone can get an Easter egg basket or a treat at the end so no one feels left out.

03

Easter Baskets

Skip the hunt altogether and cut right to the good stuff by giving your kids an Easter basket. But in order to still keep a little suspense, hide the baskets somewhere around the house or backyard and make them find them! They can have chocolates and candies in them, or you can bundle together some of their favorite things like little toys, crayons, markers, coloring books, and more.

04

Fabric Easter Eggs

Fabric Easter eggs are another great noncandy hunt alternative! They're easy to make if you have some scrap fabric lying around, or buy a set online.

05

Egg Holders

Younger egg hunters might benefit from these egg holders. They make the eggs easier to find, and they add a cute detail to the hunt with the rabbit shapes.

06

Easter Costumes

Take your Easter egg hunt to the next level with costumes. Whether everyone just wears a cute Easter headband or you go all out from head to toe, it's a nice way to really get into the festive spirit.

07

Plastic Easter Eggs

Skip the chocolate this year, and try hiding plastic Easter eggs! You can hide them as is, or fill them with treats like small candies or little gifts.

08

Egg Hunt Signs

If you have a large property or your kids need a bit of nudging in the right direction, try incorporating some fun signs into your Easter egg hunt. They add some extra excitement for the little ones!

09

Easter Piñata

Are you or your kids tired of hiding and hunting for eggs throughout the house or garden every year? Hide the chocolates somewhere else — like in a piñata! Your kids will still have to work hard to get the treats, and it's much less work for you.
